Lighting is that component in a décor that further glorifies it. It can add fine lines to a work of art just like a painter adds final strokes to his painting using a brush. Similarly, lighting adds meaning and beauty to any décor. In fact, it would not be wrong to say that lighting is actually a part of décor. In most cases, it is simply used as a source of illumination. The most commonly used source is that of fluorescent lighting. It could be applied for both outdoor and indoor usages. Though, each area of a home requires proper lighting, people have their main focus on the interior lighting design.
There are basically two kinds of illumination. One is the natural source of illumination, for example daylight, and the other is the artificial source, which uses lamps or candles for illumination. Daylight falls on the interiors through windows and skylights. The amount of light that reaches the interior of a room in this way depends on its architecture or design. The proper illumination of an interior using daylight is not only a means of lighting, but it also helps to conserve energy to a great extent.
There are different types of lighting depending upon their scattering properties and the purpose they serve. The ambient lighting is a type of general purpose lighting. It is a diffused form of lighting which fills the room and produces an overall glow enlightening every object placed in the room. It could add a subtle feel to the room. Without being too prominent, this type of lighting blends with the surrounding objects. It can be accomplished with chandeliers, ceiling or wall mounted fixtures, recessed or track lights.
Another type of lighting that is purpose-based is task lighting. It is a concentrated form of lighting which provides focused light to a particular area or task. With this light, you can perform specific tasks such as reading, cooking, sewing, and painting. This type of lighting could be provided by recessed and track lighting, and portable lamps. The main reason for this type of lighting is to prevent any type of distracting glare, as this type of lighting is meant to help you focus.
Accent lighting is different from the above two as it only illuminates a particular part of the room or object to add drama to it. Accenting a painting or sculpture in this way further glorifies the object. Bracket lighting could be used to brighten up objects. Decorative lighting is slightly different from accent lighting as the lighting acts as a design element. Examples of decorative lighting include wrought iron candle stands or a decorative lamp shaped like a peacock. It is not meant to provide a source of illumination but simply to provide a decorative touch to it.
A place would look perfect if all these types of lightings are present in it. However, a person must have this insight to understand the balance he must keep between these types of lighting within a room. It also varies in different rooms. A bedroom, for example, would have lesser shades of accent lighting as compared to a living room. It is the lighting at the end of the day that adds a warm and welcoming appeal to any room.
Connor R. Sullivan recently searched the internet for a Fluorescent lighting for a home remodeling job he and his wife are completing in an order to become environmentally sound. He and his wife found the perfect interior lighting design for the kitchen and family rooms.
